A Hearty Response

Directed by Norman Law Man / 1986 / Hong Kong / IMDb

In December 1986, an 88m 35mm print of A HEARTY RESPONSE was Refused Registration because of sexual violence. Golden Reel Films was the applicant.

A censored version running 2276.69-meters (83:13) was passed with an R-rating in January 1987. The rating was awarded for violence that was described as:
Frequency: Infrequent
Explicitness/Intensity: Medium
Purpose: Gratuitous

The censored version went on to have a Chinese language theatrical release.

The censored scene

The Hong Kong DVD released on the Universe Laser and Video Co label ran 85:32. It is obvious which scene caused the problems with the Australian censors. It runs from approximately 69 to 74 minutes. It shows Kwong Sun being held by the people smuggler. He ties her up, tattoos her, and finally rapes her.
