HERE WE GO ROUND THE MULBERRY BUSH was filmed in two versions. A scene near the end shows the two main characters skinny-dipping, followed by a naked love scene on the riverbank. The version that played Britain had the swim reduced to a couple of flashes and the love scene played clothed.
Australia got the export nude release with the long version of the swim and the love scene played naked. Three cuts were taken from this sequence for the 1968 Australian release.
Times come from the British BFI DVD release.
80:08 - 00:05 cut: Judy Geeson removing her top with her breasts shown in close up.
82:27 – 00:29 cut: Nude love sequence on the riverbank shot from waist up. Film resumes when the dog interrupts the tryst.
83:10 – 00:13 cut: Further footage of the naked love scene before the dog interrupts them again.
I am not aware of any dialogue cuts even though the British X-rated release cut other scenes for risqué humour.
The 1970s TV screenings of HERE WE GO ROUND THE MULBERRY BUSH were of the Australian cinema version. It first screened on Channel 10 in late 1973 and then became a staple of Channel 9 midnight to dawn TV. I had a copy on the early Phillips home video 3/4" VCR that predates VHS and Betamax!
On Christmas Eve 1988, it screened on (I think) Channel 10. This is the last time it was shown on TV here as far as I'm aware. Up until that point, it had not been on TV since we had VHS in the late 1970s, so I taped it for a format upgrade. The print was amazing. I have transferred it to DVD. The 1988 screening was the Australian cinema version with the cuts glued back in! You can see the glue and join marks on freeze frame. How this happened is beyond me. Someone had the edits and put them back in to a cut Australian print. How, why, where is a HUGE mystery for me.
