Film Censorship Jan'60-Apr'70: A to Z
Database of films that were banned and censored in Australia prior to May 1970.
At the time, the three classifications were advisory, and not legally restricted.
G - General Exhibition
A - Not Suitable for Children (broadly equivalent to NRC or PG)
AO - Suitable only for Adults (broadly equivalent to M)
During this period, film censorship was rampant in Australia. However, until May 1970, the Censorship Board was very secretive about what was being cut and banned.
This makes it difficult to compile a database. We therefore welcome any information regarding films that can be included.
See our censorship page for other film databases.
